Environment in which the Lickey Quartzite was probably first deposited as grains of pure quartz on a beach. The consolidation and cementing of those grains of sand into the hard quartzite rock of today, occurred later.

Life in the Ordovicain seas when the Lickey Quartzite sand grains were being laid down on a beach or in shallow water near the shore. Life on the land at this time at most consisted of very primitive plants growing near the shore.
